Demon Possession (priests, catholic, pastor, religions)

Though I am on the understanding that there are some religions that have provisions and people for performing exorcisms, which religions have actually been witnessed to an actual demon possession and which religions have actually had to deploy an exorcist to relieve a person who was suffering from demon possession within the last 100 years?

I know that Catholics do Exorcisms. I have also seen videos of one done in a rural part of India, so I think it's in Hindu too. Though one can find a form of Exorcism in all most any religion.

Our senior pastor, who's spent time in Indonesia, says that he has seen cases of demonic possession there. I can't remember if he said he exorcised them or not, though.

A friend of my family used to help priests with exorcisms in Canada. He has some creepy stories.

I'm in between. I both believe in demon possession and in the hysterical influences of a religious society. I think that people can be convinced that they are possessed, the same way people fool themselves into speaking in tongues.

Penn & Teller, I think, have done episodes about demon possession. So some of it MUST be bogus.

Good show that. I remember a show they did on death. Some old guy claimed he would never die because he didn't believe in it.

Yeah, I'm sure some of it is put on. But I think it's dangerous to consider it might not exist at all.

A lot of it doesn't seem real. From what I have heard Catholic Priest that are asked to do one must make a case to the Higher ups to make sure it's nothing else that can not be taken care of with out it. This is when Doctors get called and all that, if no other reason can be given for the person acting the way they do, then one may be done.

I think most cases of Demon possession can be put down to mental disorders such as schizophrenia and Bi polar disorders.

I've heard of cases of children being killed accidenaly whilst under the effects of being excorcised. It is scary and medical advice should be sought and the person completley investigated for neurological disorders before any such practice begins.

I did a Wikipedia search and I have discovered there were children and adults who were killed purposefully without any consultation or diagnosis from the medical or religious field.
