"For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he does seal you his. Therefore, the spirit of the Lord has withdrawn from you and hath no place in you; the power of the devil is over you, and this is the final state of the wicked." - Alma 34:35

"And it shall come to pass that when all men shall have passed from this first death unto life, insomuch as they have become immortal, they must appear before the judgment seat of the Holy One of Israel, and then cometh the judgment and then must they be judged according to the holy judgment of God. For the Lord God hath spoken it, and it is his eternal word, which cannot pass away, that they who are righteous shall be righteous still, and they who are filthy shall be filthy still; wherefore, they who are filthy . . . shall go away into everlasting fire, prepared for them; and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end." - 2 Nephi 9:15

So if LDS are to adhere to the Book of Mormon, baptism for the dead is a contradiction of the Book of Mormon which clearly states that there is no opportunity. The dead are judged and that is that. No second chances. So then doesn't this become a matter fo bearing false witness which contradicts the eighth commandment?

Sorry for kinda hijacking the topic. Perhaps we should take it to a separate thread?

Once. It was in the correct form (Trinitarian and with water) so I wasn't baptised again when I converted to Orthodoxy, though I would have liked to have been, but was received by Chrismation only.

once for myself at the age of 8. a few hundred more times for others.

you are in the wrong area to be debating and besides that your post with the "deplorable" comment is simply rude.

Just to clarify, you are also wrong. There is no contradiction. Baptism for the dead is not to give anyone a "second chance", it is to give them a "first chance."

Are you not aware that there have been millions and millions of individuals who lived and died without hearing the Gospel?

don't worry, we are quite aware of our own doctrine and we are quite capable of following it, although it is amusing occasionally to have those who know nothing about our doctrine try to explain it to us.

For behold, if you know the Mormon scriptures as well as I do, join my church and join me in living the true gospel of Jesus Christ. If you don't, dont lecture me on what I believe. Baptism for the dead isn't a contradiction of LDS beliefs in the Book of Mormon. You obviously don't know what the LDS believe and no amount of explaining will convince you otherwise.

You appear to have been trained well in your christian fundie church, yet your religion lists "personal." A Southern Baptist pastor would pat you on the back for such as well trained and thought-out attack. Does your book on "hard questions every mormon should answer" have a section for dealing with people who know that you know nothing about Mormonism or does it pander mostly to convincing people like you that Mormons are "the devil" (to take a quote from Waterboy) - of did you actually read the entire Book of Mormon and say to yourself, "what the hell - this isn't what Mormons really believe."

Seriously, the Book of Mormon doesn't contradict LDS beliefs and practices. Either does the Bible. It has nothing to do with this thread so I'll leave it at that. If you really care, please start a new thread.

There are many athiest who do know the Bible better than alot of Christians.

You really don't want to hear what I think of post-death baptism, and questions concerning it. And when the Southern Baptist goes to pat me on the back, he will then run in fear as he discovers the devil himself has manifested before him.

Perhaps a new thread discussing this in more detail is best, as to not de-rail this thread even more?
