Well, for starters, neither Christ nor any of His Apostles ever defined the term. In my understanding, a Christian is an individual who, believing Jesus Christ to be the Only Begotten Son of God, looks to him for salvation and tries to follow His example. Of course, that's just my perspective. I believe Christ is the Son of God and is my Savior. I also try (a lot of the time unsuccessfully) to live a life in accordance with His teachings. Apparently, though, that doesn't cut it, since I've been told on many occasions that I'm not a real Christian.

CHRISTIAN, n. One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin.
I dreamed I stood upon a hill, and, lo! The godly multitudes walked to and fro Beneath, in Sabbath garments fitly clad, With pious mien, appropriately sad, While all the church bells made a solemn din -- A fire-alarm to those who lived in sin. Then saw I gazing thoughtfully below, With tranquil face, upon that holy show A tall, spare figure in a robe of white, Whose eyes diffused a melancholy light. "God keep you, strange," I exclaimed. "You are No doubt (your habit shows it) from afar; And yet I entertain the hope that you, Like these good people, are a Christian too." He raised his eyes and with a look so stern It made me with a thousand blushes burn Replied -- his manner with disdain was spiced: "What! I a Christian? No, indeed! I'm Christ." -G.J. Shamelessly quoted from the Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce. I, too, do not want to be a real Christian. Whatever that means. ![]() |

"Christian" - a person who decides for his or her self that he or she is a "Christian." "'Real' Christian" - a person who decides for someone else whether he or she is a "Christian." It's that easy. ![]()

As far as following Christ and Christianity go, they stand firmly against each other and anyone deeming them self a Christian normally stands against Yeshua on his own teachings and murder (Balaam and Korah teachings) and believe it acceptable to kill God’s prophets…………
There is a quite clear difference to what a true follower of Christs are and anyone calling them self a Christian, knowing that it is established by Paul…. If we also include the apocalypse of Abraham, which has the whole figurative story of the devil (Azazel) kissing the son of man on the cheek, to establish a test for the nation on if they will worship him or not (can not serve two masters)….. Could go into great depths, yet when John, Paul and Simon (Pharisees) can be proven false and the ethics of Christianity rest on their teachings and contradict Matthew, Mark and Luke……… then take a look at it, if the beliefs of Pharisee Christianity ever where real?

I am just a sinner saved by grace. The Bible says:
1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. So a Christian must study the Word, divide it rightly, and discern the teachings of others, whether bad or good, and hold fast to the good. It also says: Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 24:11 Andmany false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. 2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. So we must know God's Word so when a false teacher or "prophet" arises, we can discern the truthfulness of their message by knowing God's Word. If a false prophet arises it is our duty to warn others who may fall prey to his wiles. Many false Christs and false prophets preaching false Christs shall arise and deceive many. Satan is the great deciever and shows up as a minister of light, greatly deceiving many. For those who have been deceived by one who has twisted the Word, the truth may hurt a bit, but it is better than leaving them to reap the results of their error. 2nd Peter, chapter 3 says: 15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (twist), as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. Last edited by joeboonda; 06-17-2007 at 11:31 AM. |

It's nice to see a real Christian join the thread - now those who didn't know what a real Christian is will have something to compare and contrast. |
