What the term "jihad" means to me is not that important in this case.

The important thing is that can these so called religious authorities able to reform the way "jihad' is used by some sucidal people.

Keep in mind that if the so called civilized countries didn't interfer and stick their nose in the muslim countries business, none of this would happen.

Regarding your question, I'm only "fully" aware of what happened in the place where i live in Saudi Arabia. They formed a large number of teams full of scholars to teach those whom the government catch about the true meaning of jihad.

I hate Irshad Manji.

Now, Reza Aslan is where it's at. He's Irshad Manji without the self-loathing. Ymir, you should pay less attention to Irshad Manji, and more attention to Reza Aslan, who you'd also like quite a lot without angering the entire Muslim community on this board in the process. He's a Muslim who also speaks out against terrorism, but isn't a complete butthole in the process.

Like basically, Irshad Manji says she's a Muslim right? Yet she criticizes the religion of Islam. She is not criticizing the people that have made Islam bad such as Reza Aslan, she is literally criticizing the religion. She allies herself with anti-Islam bigots (Yes, bigots) like Robert Spencer, etc. She takes Qur'anic verses out of context, etc. While she calls herself a Muslim, in practice she does not resemble one at all. We are not trying to "silence her", we merely do not like frauds.

And people that say moderate Muslims are silent have not been paying attention. The Western media is silent on moderate Muslims *not* being silent, since sadly, "evil terrorists wanna kill you" sells more papers then "Not all Muslims are bad". What exactly can we do when we've done practically everything? I think Westerners don't quite understand that a group of people does not have a hive mind. We can not simply "will" the weirdos silent.

The only reason Irshad Manji is so popular is because she can make people who despise Islam and probably want to see all Muslims deported more secure about their positions. She isn't contributing anything to the anti-terrorist moderate Muslim cause, she simply confirms deep-seated prejudices against Islam to the mostly ignorant population of America. Her rhetoric about moderate Muslims not standing up is complete bull.
