Greek words for love
Greek was a great language to write the N.T in because it is very exact. The English word love can come from three different Greek words.
Eros- Sensual/lustful Philao- affectionate, warm, friendly Agape- unconditional, extremely deep (what Jesus had to let himself be crucified) Many people even if they mess up other areas of their life don’t want to get it wrong when it comes to that one special person. And who knows how many people have committed suicide over an obsession with some girl or guy. But to me it is inspiring that there is a love that is greater than physical attraction. I also think Satan knows how important love is and tries to replace it or destroy it with lust. I know that before I knew Jesus I wouldn’t think twice about whether it was wrong to look at pornography. But now I see the damage that it causes in peoples lives (lust that is). People should always be careful when it comes to other peoples hearts. In school you learn about STD’s but never about a person’s heart. I know this must be on a lot of peoples minds (especially if you are single like me), so I thought I would start a thread on it.

Greek is not exact in the difference between agape and phileo, which is a common myth in Christian theology.
Agape is used interchangably with phileo both in the New Testament and in Greek literature. Brotherly love is just as self-sacrificing as agape, both in Christian theology and in Greco-Roman philosophy.

I don't know of an example of eros translated as love in the Greek NT.
It doesn't even appear in the NT, LOL!!!

I never said that eros was in the N.T. I just said it was a greek word for a type of love.

They seem to be interchangable:
the disciple whom Jesus loved (AGAPAO)" — John 21:20 (19:26; 21:7) to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved (PHILEO)" — John 20:2 For whom the Lord loveth (AGAPAO) he chasteneth." — Hebrews 12:6 As many as I love (PHILEO), I rebuke and chasten" — Revelation 3:19 ye love (AGAPAO) the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets." — Luke 11:43 love (PHILEO) greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues" — Luke 20:46 http://www.av1611.org/kjv/agape.html

I don't think they are interchangeable at all...
Remember, Jesus spoke Aramaic, so the Greek we are seeing is a translation of what he said. Look at the discourse between Jesus and Peter: John 21:15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." 16 Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." 17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." 18 Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!" NIV Love=Agape Love=Phileo I have to believe that the author was making a point here with his play on words. While a brotherly love will include sacrifice, a Godly love is predicated on it.
