Hello everyone,
I'm a new user to the forums and i've recently been interested in finding out what religions support C-Sections, and which ones prohibit the practice in favor of natural birth. I'd be very happy to find the answer since i've had a hard time looking online. |

To my knowledge, the Catholic Church does not have a position for or against what kind of birthing method is used.

If it means for children to survive instead of dying, I am all for it considering I nearly died at my birth and thanks to modern science at the time, I was able to survive and live my life as a very religous catholic, poet, and prankster to all my friends. As much as I sometimes don't like the rise of science and industry overpowering nature, I owe my life to scince itself and try not to forget that. I am not sure however if any religous groups oppose it but I guess it is not too big an issue.

Lol, if it weren't for C-sections I wouldn't be here today, or at best I'd look all funny...okay, funnier than normal.

Since you suggested you were interested in other religions stance on this issue, not just Catholics, I'm moving this to Comparative Religion.
That done, I'm not aware of any religious group that is against C-sections, except for of course, those who oppose any sort of medical procedures being done for any reason.

Perhaps the Ahmish or some sort of Calvinism. I am no expert and I am just beginning to study other religons deeply for the first time.

After a quick search of religioustolerance.org, I found this page, which details what religious groups prefer faith healing to medical treatment. I would assume most, if not all, would prefer natural child birth to surgery.

Doc, I would say that the Amish would be OK with an emergency C-section, in the case that the mother and/or the baby's life was at stake, but I don't know that for sure.

Heck, the Amish perform C-sections on their animals! I don't think the Amish would have anything against C-sections, as long a the knife wasn't sharpened by an electric sharpener...

I waited for a couple of days to see if anybody took the question seriously. I can't imagine any faith opposing Cs's. Doctors are supposed to save lives, so they wouldn't bother about the mother's faith but just perform the procedure if it was judged necessary. If it wasn't too overtly planned, the mother could, even for scheduled sections, claim that the doctors deemed it necessary.
