Ahhh the 'book of changes'....when I was a traveller I used to carry a copy. a hitchhikers guide if you like. It is a book used for divination, but it is also a book of wisdom. The only constant in the world is change, and thus the book of changes can offer gems of wisdom. Of course my favourite hexagram is 42nd/Increase. ![]() The Image Wind and thunder: the image of Increase. Thus the superior man: If he sees good, he imitates it; If he has faults, he rids himself of them.

The I ching has been around long before Confucious. The basis of the I Ching is understanding the way the world naturally changes, so by knowing now, you can predict what will happen by the natural course of change. Does that makes sense?
But Nehustan is right, it is much more than a system of divination. It gave taoists information regarding Chi and large amounts of chinese culture and wisdom.
