Non-literalists, what would happen if Adam/Eve never ate the fruit?
What would happen if Adam/Eve never ate the fruit?
My response: I kinda like life.  But, oh well.

Whether they ate the fruit or not the story would still be about them eating the fruit because the lesson being taught wouldn't be the same had they not eaten the fruit.

As a non literalist, I don't think they ever ate any fruit. The story is about man's evolution and progress from a creature who had no self awareness of nakedness to a creature with consciousness and a conscience. Its the story of the dawn of the human mind understanding choices and consequences beyond mere instinct.
