I think that legalism is different from following the Law. But what is the Law for Christians?

We've been working on that for 2000 years. Come back in another 2000, and maybe we'll have something definitive.
This post is only 2/3 tongue-in-cheek.

The Judaic Law, which Christ fulfilled, and whom we follow.

We are not saved by following the law, because we can't. We fall way short of God's standard, that's why Christ died. And since we are saved by grace, we will want to follow God's laws.

It's not that we CAN'T, it's that we WON'T. We WILL not, so we DO not. But we CAN.

No, it's not even possible that we could be saved by following the law:
"...knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified." (Galatians 2:16) |

The Law is summarized for the Christian thusly:
Love the Lord with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.

We are no longer under the law, but grace.

And yet...we continue to be "law-ful," instead of "grace-ful."
