Today at mass in one church the second graders celebrated their first commuinions today. They were all so sweet, It made me think of my first communion. Does anyone remember theirs? It also helped me think of idea's for the my churches second graders. I am one of the teachers for CCD and am currently working with the second graders and their holy commuinion. I just thought I'd share that you may enjoy memories, and young children.

I remember mine and it was like 12 years ago. I'm sure I still have the black rosary I was given as a gift from my Great grandmother.

I still have mine too! Mine is white. Wow, from your great grandmother! That's awesome.

I remember mine too. It was two years ago, and i was fingering a St. Patrick (my patron siant) rosary in my pocket the whole time. I was really anxious, and excited. It was kinda interesting, because i had my baptism and conformation the same night. Another thing, my first taste of Christ was in a square waifer. I have never seen a square waifer ever since.

Yet another set of culture clashes.
It would be rather unthinkable in the Church of Sweden for a youngster to partake of the Communion before having had the education leading to Confirmation (usually at the age of ca. 11-13) - but nobody would ever be excluded from joining!. The very first communion (bread and wine, of course) would typically be at a public service during which the kids first have been asked questions on the Lutheran Cathechism and similar teachings of the CoS. BTW, I've never seen a CoS member even near a rosary. For those similarily inclined, the typical confirmation gift would be a copy of the official book of hymns. (In Denmark, the confirmation at least used to include a huge and expensive party with lots of gifts.)
