Hey!

I was just curious what version or version(s) of the Bible you're currently using? I'm curious which version(s) are preferred amongst us...

I am partial to my NKJV.

But I also own and do reference...

The New American. Fabulous! I have the KJ. NKJ. the NIV., have read the Good News Bible, and a few more I can't remember which version. I find the New American the Bible I can absorb the most info from.

I read the King James because the LDS church publishes a version that cross references it with the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price.

When I read in German I read either the Luther Bible (which I prefer) or the Einheitsuebersetzung.

I use the NKJV with Apocrypha for my English text (because as yet there is no English translation of the Orthodox canon) as well as an official Romanian Orthodox Bible. I'm still waiting for the complete Orthodox Study Bible (whih was due out in the summer but has been delayed due to the illness of one of the translators) and will then almost certainly use that as we use the entire Septuagint and not just those deuterocannonicals found in the RC canon and the 1611 KJV. I avoid the modern language type translations because I find them to be very poor, often distorting the meaning of the text quite badly.

I read the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible.

I use the JST and cross reference it with the KJV. I like to see how they differ. I have a book that compares the two side by side. I gain great strength from reading the JST of the Bible. The KJV was mostly translated correctly, what we have of it, with some minor punctuation, grammar, and spelling errors, but there are also some major passages left out of Genesis and many more throughout the KJV that did not get translated or recorded or were lost throughout the years of it's history. Long passages of scripture misssing from the KJV as well as smaller ones. There are also some mistranslations of certain scriptures, not too major though. A word mistranslated here and there. The JST is a pure form of the BIble. It is wonderful. I can feel the spirit of it. I want to say that very few people even have a copy of this, even in LDS homes I think it would be rare to find one. I love the Joseph Smith Translation of the KJV of the Bible. The KJV is used in the LDS faith as long as it is translated correctly.
