Pope John Paul II may have cured nun (Jesus, Earth)

Last year a letter was recieved by a Slawomir Oder, who according to this website is looking into the sainting the late pope: http://www.vicariatusurbis.org/Beati...tulatoreen.asp

has reported that He has recieved a letter from a nun claiming the late Pope John Paul II cured her Parkinson's Disease.

I tried to google more on this but came-up short. Maybe somebody else can find stuff I can't I have to get ready for work.

I know you're tired of hearing this, but...

When the nun says that Pope John Paul II cured her, does she mean God cured her through the late Pontif, or that it was the Pope alone?

If the former, why do you believe God acts through people like this instead of directly?

I can't speak for the nun, but orthodox Catholic teaching would dictate that she believed that she was cured by God through the intercession of the late JPII.

The intercession of the saints. "Being more closely united to Christ, those who dwell in heaven fix the whole Church more firmly in holiness. . . . They do not cease to intercede with the Father for us, as they proffer the merits which they acquired on earth through the one mediator between God and men, Christ Jesus. . . . So by their fraternal concern is our weakness greatly helped." CCC #956

Since Abraham, intercession - asking on behalf of another has been characteristic of a heart attuned to God's mercy. In the age of the Church, Christian intercession participates in Christ's, as an expression of the communion of saints. In intercession, he who prays looks "not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others," even to the point of praying for those who do him harm. CCC#2635

I'm not sure i'm understanding this part. Is it saying that when you're praying to saints, you're asking for them to ask for God's help on your behalf?

Yes. You are going to someone (Saint) who's relationship with God is more certain then your own. It would be equivalent to going to your brother or sister to ask your dad something. It's focus is to have a family to commune together even though everybody can go to the Father I would much rather have his mom ask Him.

Victor is quite correct... but I would also add that someone does not have to be a canonized Catholic saint to (possibly) intercede on your behalf.... I ask my Jewish grandfather (he passed away almost 10 years ago)to pray for me often... the main difference is that only a formally canonized Saint may be PUBLICLY venerated as part of a Mass or other official Church proceeding.
