For Lent?

...this is pretty bad of me giving up something for a holiday i dont believe in... but i do it anyway... i'm giving up chocolate!

I don't know if I'd call Lent a holiday.

I'm giving up beer at least till Midsummer, and wheat and sugar, at least on weekdays, for an indefinite period. It doesn't have anything to do with Lent, though, it has to do with being too fat.

im not giving up anythying i could try and give up smoking, coffee, chocolate, TV, RF ........ but i know i wouldn't, because im close to exam! withdrawal is not what i intend to go through right now....... especially when im comfort eating already!

Everything (when it starts, it's not till Monday for us because Pascha's the week after western Easter this year, and we calculate the fast differently to westerners as well). By everything, I mean I'm going to try (may fail occasionally) to give up meat, fish, dairy products, alcohol and olive oil. I've already given up the meat because we do that the week before Great Lent. I thought about giving up the internet (because I spend far too long surfing), but I mostly use it to find out about religion anyway, so I decided against.

I was going to say sarcastically that I would give up smoking (because I don't smoke), but Nutshell has posted "Happy Ash Wednesday."; maybe we should smoke.........

There's not much left for me to give up. Having been brought up to enjoy everything that is either fattening or intoxicating, or anti-social (being alone) I can't really think of meaningful things to give up.

I thought the 'Happy Ash Wednesday' was a bit odd, myself, seeing as it's the first day of a fast. We don't have Ash Wednesday at all but I really can't imagine anyone saying 'Happy Clean Monday', which would be the equivalent for us - and which is next Monday, for anyone who's wondering, but we've already started a partial (meat only) fast as of this Monday.

Well people say Happy Mardi Gras! Why can't the (western) Ash wednesday be happy? That's day descrimination, and will not be tolerated!

.... on a more serious note... i think i'm going to give up ice cream and cake as well... *sigh* (this still leaves cookies...but i'm still debating if I can give that one up without some serious heartache...which is the point of lent.... but i'm not even christian!)
