Then why did Jesus Christ say that He would "judge every man according to his works"? And why did He talk of separating the sheep from the goats? Every example He gave in that passage had to do with feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick. It is by those works that He will know whether we're really walking the walk and not just talking the talk.

Whoops... typo on my part. Those quotes are from the Epistle of James, not from the Gospel of John. Sorry.
![]() Edit: I quoted the New International Version. From a quick look at other versions, it seems like they say pretty much the same thing for these passages.

Matt. 5:28- My bad, Matt:5:48
John 17:23- Total brain cramp Eph 4:13- speaks of santification process. Col. 1:28 Another brain cramp, meant 1:28 Col 4:12- Sanctification again Heb 7:19- Christ (the better hope) made believers perfect. Heb 10:1 Implication of needed perfection. It speaks of needed perfection. Other scripture points to this being an ineffectual method. Jesus was pointing out the futility of working one's way to heaven. Again, Only by coming to Christ by faith can one do any deeds worthy of acceptance by God. First faith, then acceptable works. No works, no saving faith.
