What happens if a person who is intersexed (has both male and female genitalia) marries a spouse with the wrong gender from the one God really meant for them. Do they go to hell for committing homosexual acts?

I've been asking this question, or something similar to it, as well.
Theology and intersex. I wish you luck. |

It's too bad there haven't been more replies to this thread.
This may be a subject religions are going to eventually have to deal with as hermaphrodites become more numerous. |

Sexual sin is not related to who you are having sex with, but around misuse of creation and each other. Possessiveness, idolatry, stealing...in general taking what is not yours, are the sexual sins. Two consenting adults committed to each other in love are not sinning.

There really aren't people with sets of FUNCTIONING genitalia from both sexes. The technical definition of a true hermaphrodite is a person who has one ovary and one testicle. But as far as I know there hasn't ever (in modern times at least) been an individual functional both ways.
Pseudo hermaphroditism is something that happens with some frequency. In this instance the fetus is genetically male but for some reason or other does not react to the release of male hormones. Since we are ALL female in the womb, before the attack of the hormones begins, the pseud. hermaph. will develop physically as a female while having testicles in place of ovaries. In these instances when the individual matures there is a vagina, but no womb or fallopian tubes. The testicles will not descend and be found somewhere in the abdomen. The individual may never know that she is genetically male, unless someone does an ultrasound of the "ovaries" and is curious enough to do a chromosomal smear for microscopic examination. As ot "sin", well, I think that is silly. The individual intersexed in any way, CAN almost always make a decision what to do and there are hormonal and surgical treatments available. We are all the children of God, why would he pick on these particular individuals and "force" them to sin? Regards, Scott

As I understand it(I could be wrong so if there are any Doctors or MD's with knowledge aboard please correct me) the Hermaphrodite usually has two pairs of genitals but only one is predominant and works. Some may argue then that the predominant working genital is the one that person actually is. I agree with this assessment. I do not think that God would condemn a hermaphrodite to hell for marrying as person. In order for Mortal sin to take place one must first encounter grave sin(Which homosexuals acts are by nature) and **know** it is grave sin. Knowledge is important and a person may not have inadequate knowledge that whether they are or not a women or man by birth given that extremely rare physical condition. Then the person must also freely choose to do the act for it to be a mortal sin. If worse comes to worse and Pastoral counselling may help the individual in deciding what actions to take. It the person is confused the best route would be to do what all non-married Chrisitans should do and abstain from Sexual relationships all together. Indeed this may be another Cross given to the person by the Lord for their sacntification.

Maybe we're better off understanding differences, flukes, and "abberations" as the diversity of nature that God intended (of we're going to take a theological stance at all here). When we begin to understand the diverse minority as "not what God intended, or as "what God intended," we begin to make judgments about the "suffering" subjects' worth as human individuals. That's sad.
