You're making an assumption about homosexual acts that is incongruous with modern Biblical understanding.

Adam and Eve did not know that eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was a sin, because it would require awareness of the difference between good and evil to know something is wrong, thus sinful. Only after they ate it did they know what they did was a sin. Yet as punishment for their sin, God cursed the ground for Adam, made childbirth very painful for Eve, and kicked them both out of the Garden.

I'm not sure I'm getting this completely right, but Rabbi Kushner's thought is that the first sin did not occur in the Garden, but when Cain did not trust that God had enough love for his brother and himself.

Some clarity, there are no human hermaphrodites. I know there is some discussion with the community as to what terminology to use but from what I've read I think the term is not in favor with most intersex individuals.

Intersex individuals can be of different gender. Hence the term, intersex, in the first place.

Besides, given the Bible we have a situation where statements are made in the Bible about God creating them male/female. Nature shows this is not true.

So the Bible is wrong.

That's not a sin, that's a natural conclusion, drawn from the fact that God loved Abel's roasted lambchops but despised Cain's roasted avocados.

When writing about a subject it is helpful to have at least one or two synomyms, to avoid repetition, even if one of the terms is considered gauche by the word police. This allows one to create flowing prose.

edit: I wouldn't post this if it wasn't for the "poetic" term being the dominant reference over the actual term. It doesn't help in promoting any understanding whatsoever. And, to take a risk at provoking the ire of RF...as if I care...the majority of the members have no clue and most will not bother checking on any factual basis what intersex means. It's better to get some understanding from the actual people themselves.

Personally, I think hermaphrodite is a useless term. There is no such thing in reality. Even those who possess one testicle and one ovary usually have a more obvious gender. That more obvious gender may not be the one which brings about the most comfort and serenity, of course.

Having said that. For an intersexed person to "fall in love" and disclose his/her nature to someone is an act of love and trust in the first place.

Those who are, in fact, intersexed to some degree or another have enough problems in their lives without having outsiders debate the state of their souls.

The corrected phrase might be "Male and Female created He them (most of the time)."
