I'd like for someone to use the Bible to prove Hell, as the majority of Christians teach and believe, actually exists. I contend that it was made up in approximately the 4th Century. No where did the Old Testament hero's of old teach or warn about eternal punishment. Even in the New Testament, Jesus spoke of national judgment. Of course, I believe in that Great Day of Judgment in which the Souls of the unsaved will be thrown into a "lake of fire" to be destroyed...but again, nothing is said about eternal punishment. And please, if one responds, do not use the words from the King James Version...if you notice your footnotes, the word sheol is the word used. In every instance in the Old Testament, the word grave might be substituted for the term hell. Any response?

Hell is not a literal place, it is a separation from God. God does not separate from people, it is the other way around. Whenever Hell is mentioned, it is an allegory. I had better say that this is my opinion, since it is.
Note--I notice that a lot of people seem to twist the words of the Bible to suit their own purposes. Both Christians and non-Christians do this. I may have even done it without even realizing that I had done it. That is something we all need to be careful of.

Hi!
I certainly do not want to debate whether Hell is everlasting punishment or simple annihilation, as it has always been considered even by Old Testament Jews to be everlasting in nature. I will point out that just above your Revelation 20:14--(it is revelation, not revelations, btw), there is Revelation 20:10 which states the following: And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Emphasis on the last part. Also, note the beast and false prophet, are humans who have been there quite sometime, yet not consumed. If one believes this literally, there are numerous verses that say this is, for ever and ever. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night... Cheers! |

Please...Mr. Peanut...I am serious about this question...Yeah, I know it's Revelation in versions; however, if you read between the lines...there are actually many "revelations" from Jesus in this Book. I'm new to this Forum...I suppose there are many who will be "nit-picky" on wordage.... |

The word Hell for the English speaking Christian would have come from the Norse Hel, which is both a being and a place for (some of) the dead.
In Norse mythology, the realm Hel[1] shares a name with its ruler, Hel. As described in Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda it is a place thronged with the shivering and shadowy spectres of those who have died ingloriously of disease or in old age. Hel also houses dishonourable people who have broken oaths. Hel is cold and low in the overall structure of Norse cosmology. From Wikipedia. And it's been in other believes to, Hell is not just a Christian thing like people think, some place even seem a little worse, but they are not for every though. P.S. A concept of Hell might have come from Hades in the Greek belief becasue that were and what the NT was writen in. |
