If you ask most Christians why they don't steal, kill or lie, they respond with the usual its contrary to the Word of God(Bible)?
However if you ask the same Christians why they don't keep the 4th commandment they can't give you one reason from the Bible why the 4th commandment is any different from the rest. Who took away this commandment? Where can I find it in the Bible? |

You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
That's the fourth commandment. Most Christians keep the fourth commandment, as far as I know.

Depending on the numbering system and grouping of instructions into commandments, the Fourth Commandment can also be "Honour your father and your mother" or "Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy".
My guess is that d.n.irvin is looking for a Biblical foundation for changing the day of rest from Saturday to Sunday. |

What do you consider keeping the sabbath day holy?

That doesn't answer my question, how is one supposed to keep the sabbath holy according to you?

9 of the 10 commandments are given again in the NT. Believers were told to meet on the first day of the week and give offerings. This is refered to many times as the Lord's day. This is also the day of the resurrection, a most significant day. The Law, the ten commandments, was given so we can know we fall short, we are sinners, and leads us to Christ, to Mt. Calvary. Now by grace we are saved at Mt. Calvary yet many want to return to Mt. Sinai and the Law, but does the Bible teach this? Have we begun in Christ to go back to the Law? We are dead to the law and alive to Christ. We are new creatures not living by a dead letter the Bible says. Our life is in a person, Jesus Christ, and not in the Law, for the Law only brings death. For a detailed explanation go here: http://www.middletownbiblechurch.org...e/rulelife.htm
Galatians 2:16 16Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. "Run, John, run! The Law commands! But gives me neither feet nor hands. Far grander news the Gospel (grace) brings: It bids me fly and gives me wings!" – John Bunyan Last edited by joeboonda; 08-01-2007 at 02:58 PM. |
