I was wondering if it was okay to get some sort of a bible study going.FOr instance, anyone who is interested to participate may want share their favorite biblical quote or someone may want to share a quote that may seem confusing to them so others can expound upon it and help them out in terms of understanding.
If you will, after you write down your favorite quote, to write what you think it means in you own words however, some of the versus are self explanatory and some of them are hard to interpret which is why there is so many subdivisions or denominations for Christianity. Thanks for those who participates! Last edited by Hacker; 08-18-2006 at 10:36 AM. |

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you...Matthew 6:33
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be proclaimed in all the world as a witness to all nations. And then the end shall come... Matthew 24:14 But if I should delay, that you may know how you ought to behave in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth... 1 Timothy 3:15

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:19-21
Or in other words: "Don't worry, they'll get whats coming to them. Don't lower yourselves to the level of your enemies, but instead present an example of how they should behave."

Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead
James 2:14-18 14Dear brothers and sisters, what's the use of saying you have faith if you don't prove it by your actions? That kind of faith can't save anyone. 15Suppose you see a brother or sister who needs food or clothing, 16and you say, "Well, good-bye and God bless you; stay warm and eat well"--but then you don't give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? 17So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show itself by good deeds is no faith at all--it is dead and useless. 18Now someone may argue, "Some people have faith; others have good deeds." I say, "I can't see your faith if you don't have good deeds, but I will show you my faith through my good deeds." It is a call to social action.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Most Christians seem to interpret it as Jesus referring to himself. I believe he is referring to the spirit of Man. Our spirit is God's son, "the Son of Man", the son of God's father spirit. We must simply believe in ourselves, and we are in Heaven, we are already eternally alive. No dying necessary.

Malachi 3:22 Keep in remembrance the teaching of Moses, My servant-the laws and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel. The words of the last of the prophets in Judaism, it is part of my favorite Haftarah for Shabbat HaGadol!

John 10:10 ---> "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:27-30 ---> "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." John 14:6 ---> Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." John 16:33 ---> "I have told you these thingss, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." 1 Corinthians 1:18 ---> "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 ---> "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glor, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 5:17 ---> "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:21 ---> "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ---> But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. Phillippians 3:12-14 ---> "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 3:16-17 ---> "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Hebrews 11:1 ---> "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (loooove the faith chapter) Hebrews 12:11-12 ---> "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later one, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. "Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed." Ecclesiasters 7:26 ---> "I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare." Psalm 84:10 ---> "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." Joshua 1:8-9 ---> "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will proseperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." |
