I have a copy of the TDNT that I use every day. It's great to see someone else refer to it. Just FYI: some of the contributors to it were affiliated with the Nazis. I couldn't find a list of all the contributors that were Nazi, but Gerhard Kittel, the editor was, and I believe that the contributor for "agape" also was, too. I couldn't find a reliable source online that has a comprehesive list, but it's good to know who you're reading...

As I understand it, the TDNT is one of the best scholarly works of its kind, and very reliable. What's your take on it? How reliable is it in cases like the issue in this thread, for example? |

Well..... To get back to "OP". I personally do not think that any have shown proof that "brother" and "neighbor" are meant the same in Scripture. Maybe similar in some instances but not the exact same. I believe that one can live next to one that may not see things as yourself or those that you Assembly with. Those of your Assembly to me would be your brothers and sisters while that one that lives beside you that chooses another way may or may not be of the same belief as in the particulars but back in the time of antiquity's, they would have been in belief of the same Elohim. Kinda like today with the plethora of different christian churches and the multi faceted faith of each of the respected members of each. As of the jews with their differences. Whether orthodox, karaite, nazarite, etc. etc. etc. etc. But to be a brother in one name and in one way of thinking and one accord, and no not the car, I feel is much more different than simply a neighbor.
