Default Watchers From Heaven

I've always been curious about these passages from Daniel 4 since I've read them:

[13] I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

[17] This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

[23] And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

What are your thoughts on what a watcher is, preferable from a Biblical perpective.

This watch appeared to be a holy watcher, one of the angels, or perhaps archangel.

In Genesis 6, the divine beings, or sons of God looked down and saw how beautiful women on earth, so they went took them as wives, producing giants, or Nephilim. In the Book of Enoch, these angels (ie sons of God) became fallen angels. These fallen angels were known Watchers, and became earthbound. But they were not the only Watchers; there were Holy Watchers too, who did not have sex with mortal women. This is the reason why the first part of the Book of Enoch was called The Book of Watchers.

The Holy Watchers were the 7 archangels of God were named for the first time together (chap 20) - Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Saraqael and Remiel.

So you have 2 groups of Watchers - Holy Watchers and the fallen Watchers. Clearly, the Watcher in Daniel is a holy one.

Interesting. I've heard of the sons of God in Genesis being mentioned but not the watchers. I've also heard the treory that the flood was inflicted in order to maintain the purity of the blood line that descended to Christ. It seems these unsurly angels in Genesis were trying to corrupt it.

The Hebrew word is 'iyr: a guard, a watcher, a name of angels in the later Hebrew. According to Strong's concordance.
