Actually I think the Romans did the nailing and the poking with the spear the Jews just agreed however; my point was now with our current intellect and technology and lack of superstition, with our knowledge of recording word for word so there is no need for interpretation why not come now. How can anyone have faith in something that is so hard to believe that even the followers disagree with one another. The people in question 2,000 years ago didn't know how to wipe their own behinds with out spreading the plague and I'm to take their word about something as big as god that would just be silly. People believe what they want to believe because it makes them feel good to spite any evidence contrary of their belief they continue to justify what they believe by saying it is faith. I would be willing to believe and do what god requires if god would only give me a logical reason to and show itself to be capable of more love, compassion and mercy than I am.

There is plenty of reason to believe Jesus existed.

Well, if nothing else it may have stopped a plague or two. There is a 1 hour special on the hygiene habits of the day on National Geographic, I was shocked to say the least.

Certainly some of the general principles can apply. The vast majority of religions teach us that we should be good to each other and look beyond ourselves for purpose. Unfortunately, beyond that is where they get bogged down into details that may or may not apply depending on the situation.

When we think about God’s lack of physical intervention in modern times are we a forgotten society or has God found it difficult to deal with us because of our modern technological, intellectual environment?

There wasn't physical intervention then either, just superstitious people who took myths a little too literally.

There is, at least for David (see Tel Dan Stele - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), but there's no evidence of the kind of mighty nation-state described in the Bible, and the description of Solomon's wealth and power is almost certainly greatly overblown.

There is actually a strong female presence in the Bible (especially when you compare it to any historical documentation of its time).

A few of Israel's judges were female. The books of Ruth and Esther are specifically about female historical figures. Paul mentions in his letters that there are major female leaders in the early church. The Messianic lineage of Jesus even attributes roles to many females (as opposed to being completely male-dominated). Finally, the gospels show many, many accounts of Jesus interacting with men and women alike.

The Bible may not support a feminist perspective (that men and women should be independent of each other in marriage), but it most definitely speaks to both men and women. It's not like they're different species or anything.
