Who wrote the book of Hebrews? Some claim Paul. Others claim Silas. While others claim Barnabas or Apollos. Your thoughts?

I don't think there is a straight answer to that; the internet shows just how much argument there is over this point. The majority seem to indicate Paul is one main contender.

A couple of things here:

1. There is convincing evidence against Paul's authorship, primarily that the book of Hebrews is an extended homily. Paul wrote with a very identifiable letter form not found in the book of Hebrews; he did not write in sermons.

2. The Greek of Hebrews is much more formal than that of Paul's works. It is written as though it was meant to be read aloud, or were transcribed from a delivered speech rather than an informal letter.

However, in defense of Paul, the content of the book tends to mesh very well with Paul's writings. It is possible that, if Paul did not write the book of Hebrews, it was written using material from some of Paul's letters. It is evident in the letters of Peter that early in the first century some of Paul's letters were already being accepted as Scripture.

Michel, I agree, he must be the front runner. There is supposed to be a connection between 2nd Peter and Paul and Hebrews.

Honestly, I can't speculate. There isn't really any literature against which to compare Hebrews in an effort to pin-point its author. I think the general concensus among scholars who do not think Paul wrote the book is that, ultimately, it really doesn't matter who wrote it as much as the fact that the material contained therein follows the rest of the NT.
