I like to plop my scriptures open and start reading wherever my eyes land on the open page. Today, I landed on James 4:17. "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."
I thought I'd start posting these scriptures I come upon to see so we can discuss them in this forum. The above scripture seems straight forward. It's referring to sins of omission, sins committed by NOT doing something you know you should. I bet these are much more common than sins where we actually do something wrong. |

I think it's more than that. I think that verse also aquits something for "sinning" if they don't know it's a sin.

Therefore, if one knows how to do what is right and yet does not do it, it is a sin for him....James 4;17 Here are some more verses which go along with the same thought
(John 9:41) Jesus said to them: "If YOU were blind, YOU would have no sin. But now YOU say, ‘We see.’ YOUR sin remains." (John 15:22) If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin |

James is letting us know that when we know God's standards for good, but we still don't do it, we fall short of His standards. That is sin. But the good thing is we fall under His grace (Romans 8:1) through forgiveness, therefore, there is no condemnation.
