Default Are you going against Jesus' teachings if you are against animal testing?

As was pointed out to me in another thread, Jesus himself killed 2000 pigs to save just one human life. Mark 5:9-14

So is it against Jesus' teachings to be against animal testing to save human lives?

Actually that was to save a soul, rather than a life, but hair-splitting arguments aside, no I don't believe this implies anything about animal testing. I oppose animal testing in general (though I would allow it for medical research if - and given the physiological differences between many test animals and man this is infrequently the case - it can be justified). I don't recall anywhere where Christ condoned torturing animals so that we could look better, though (and vanity is actually contrary to Christian morals), and given that this is the purpose of much, if not the majority of, animal testing, I'm fairly confident that Christ would share my disapproval.

well maybe i am going off track here but as one of JW i believe that man will be brought back into harmony with the animals . we are so out of harmony with God at the momment that our use of animals has gone past the way that God intented our use to be in the first place.

while man has dominion over animals, he should not abuse that authority but use it in harmony with the principles of God’s Word.

God’s Word condemns cruelty to animals, telling us: "A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast." (Prov. 12:10

Man’s having the animals in subjection placed upon him a stewardship for which he would always be accountable to God

Regarding the animals, Hosea 2:18 says: "I shall certainly conclude a covenant in that day in connection with the wild beast of the field and with the flying creature of the heavens and the creeping thing of the ground." How wonderful it will be to live during that time, when peaceful conditions will benefit not only upright humans but also the animals............ yes this earth at the momment is out of harmony with God but not for long. Good things ahead for those who want it

Did Jesus ever compensate the swineherd? If not, was he a thief/rustler?

Many things Jesus did was unkind and against humanity so why not the animals.

If you have a look at some of the following, then you might be able to understand who Jesus was. To some he wouldn’t even allow them to burry their parents. Not loving at all, most would say deprivation of human rights. There are many things Jesus did. One other comes to mind is designating the fig tree for not producing fruit., yet the poor old tree was not season.

(Mat 8:21 NRSV) Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."

(Mat 8:22 NRSV) But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

I don't think you can believe everything that is written. All history was written by those in power to control the masses. Why would "The Bible" be an exception? I think it would help people a lot to stop and think whenever they read anything that is considered news or history "what ulterior motives does the author have"?(news should almost never be taken as history).

If you read "The Bible" you see many examples of people who were punished for sinning and not repenting. You see many examples of why you should tythe. Why is this? Why wouldn't any church want you to give more and more money to it, and fear them? I do believe that there is truth in "The Bible", you just have to find it. Most of the time, it is something that has nothing to do with "The Church". An example would be Genesis 1:29 that says, "Behold, I have given you every herb-yielding seed which is upon the face of the earth, every tree that has seed-yielding fruit--to you it shall be for food." No one had anything to gain by this.....so I take it to be a truth.

I hope I didn't go too far off topic.

What do you mean that "Jesus, himself killed 2000 pigs"? I read that it was the demonic spirits that killed the pigs. Or maybe we can blame the water in which they drowned. Personally, I think Jesus would laugh about this one. He basicly is The Test to save human lives.

"Whatsoever you do to the least of these, my brothers, you have also done it unto Me".

Jesus was also, by all logic, a vegetarian, as was his brother, James.
