I have a particular point on which I am really 'Fuzzy'; I have tried to find out the answer for myself, but can only get conflicting answer to what I am looking for.
I notice that some faiths focus on the New Testament, whilst still reffering to the OT. It would be much appreciated if you could all give me your views on this - from all perspectives. ![]()

As I just said in the "Did Jesus "free" us from the OT laws" thread, I am starting to think we should give more importance to the OT than I have noticed from my church experience.

To me, the OT is more of a history lesson. It has alot " How things used to be" stories. The NT is more of a "How to live your life" with teachings of Jesus, and a small capsule of his life.

We don't really seperate the OT and NT like some Christians. We don't follow all the OT laws (and for good scriptural reasons as I pointed out in Mr Emu's thread) but we see much of the NT prefigured in the OT. Much of our reading of the OT tends to be typological and as such tends to be quite different from the ways in which a Protestant or Jew might read it. We tend to take the Scriptures as a whole and read the OT through the lens of the NT, but I think that the OT is more than the sort of history lesson that jgallandt mentioned (though it is evidently that as well, as is the NT to some degree).

My experience has been that most Christians, when forced to deal with their Old Testament, view it as an embarrassing encumbrance.

I view the OT much like the manual to my last car, certainly would be helpful to some people, but not much help to me now. except in a general way.
