Maybe it's because this group of Christians uses it for their political agenda and can't logically explain why they take parts of the OT as gospel and not other parts.

I've always looked at the OT more as a small slice of the history between God and his chosen people. It also foretells the coming of Christ. There is also a lot of moral guidance to be found in the OT when applied reasonably (e.g. I'm not selling my child into slavery when they disobey me.).

Nicely said although, having raised four children of my own, I wouldn't set any hard and fast rules if I were you.

The crux of the OT was to tell Israel about their God.

The rules and regulations in the OT were designed to bring us the messiah.

Consequently, the usefulness of the OT has changed to being more of a history book, and an instrument to increase faith.

But of course, I expect Deut to take exception with my thoughts.
