Leviticus 20 - 24 and 26

But I said to you, "You will possess their land; I will give it to you as an inheritance, a land flowing with milk and honey." I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the nations.

You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.

From this was born 'In God we Trust"

But those Americans that adhere and follow this scriptural Word of God seem to have passed over verse 25

You must therefore make a distinction between clean and unclean animals and between unclean and clean birds. Do not defile yourselves by any animal or bird or anything that moves along the ground—those which I have set apart as unclean for you.

again, i think this goes to my question of which if the Laws christians feel they need or don't need to follow since some say they were done away with, some say just the 10 commandments are for them, and then some include those plus the prohibition on things like homosexualitiy...
it's just plain confusing to me...

For what it's worth, I don't eat pork. But then again, I don't believe that America is the new Zion either.

I agree with you that America was founded partly (a large part) on the belief that Europe was corrupt and has lost God's favor, that the new world was the new "promised land," where a new "chosen people" could found God's nation on earth, and that the Native Americans were the "Caananites" of the Exodus story, who were slaughtered with impunity because "we" had God's blessing.

What I'm not sure about is that this is the reason why we have "In God We Trust." One can ascribe to that sentiment even if one doesn't believe that we're God's new chosen people (set apart from other nations).

very true,i mistakenly gave up the unclean foods and forgot until told about st peters words concerning such,man i was dying for my pizzas...lol.........countries choose extracts from the bible that suits them

Of course you are right, Lilithu. But to me it seems that there is the hypocritical meaning of "In God We Trust - not to notice our sins." I'm also thinking of where the blame has gone and does go to explain God's disfavor and the state of evil that is seen.. I'm not so sure it is an oversimplification to blame pork as one "timber" in the eye of the religious right.

Exodus also has laws as well...i had a friend of mine once characterize the Torah as a long set of social and labor laws...
