Did people really live that long? (bible, faith, religion, Old Testament)

In the Old Testament it speaks of people living for hundreds of years. did they really live that long? because eventually the scrpitures get more into line with a more 'normal' life expectancy. Anyone have any insight on that?

well if the bible says they lived that long then they lived that long,if one part of the bible is untrue then none within can be relied on as truth,though thats not the case,also if you question that people lived that long then maybe you have a lack of faith concerning the bible,sorry for picking on you but its not been a great day......peace

Most of the Old Testament stories are to be taken metaphorically, not literally. I find it impossible to believe in some humans living for nine hundred years or so.

To live 900 years, early man Adam and gang have to be like a turtle or elephant, very slow moving, and that is the key to long life. Over the period of time, our grandfathers have become more and more active, moving faster and faster, and hence the life has shortened to the present day 60 to 80 years range.
