John 1:1-2 says

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

It seems the word preceded Genesis 1 where it says

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

concluding with

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

The "word" was already out and the Word says "day". There is no mention of the duration of time between John 1's real beginning and Genesis 1 but the Word specifies "day". John 1 also confirms Psalm 90

4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by,or like a watch in the night.

Even giving a very liberal interpretation of 1000 or 2000 years in a day and night, the Word is clear this was the duration of God's "day" Although God explains the definition later in the chrological Bible, the Word preceded Genesis, Moses' prayer, and the writng down of the prayer in Pslams. A day of creation must be 1000 (or 2000) years for Christians

Man, I wish No*s was here..... I do believe that the lack of a definite article in the Greek "Was God" signifies predication rather than identification.... but I don't read a whole heck of a lot of Greek.

.... but heck, maybe "The Word" here is Jesus... hmmm

I dont think so. I really think its just an attempt to make the creation story seem scientifically possible. The verse :


4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by,or like a watch in the night.
isnt meant to be taken literally, especially if its in pslams.

How God experiences time isn't really relevent unless you're trying to claim - as someone was in another thread - that the Creation took place in a literal 7 days as experienced by humans, because the bible states that it took 7 days, and when you have no other yardstick to go by, you're inclined to measure things based on your personal experience. The 'thousand years as one day' reference I think just implies that God is not constrained by human time frames - as well he shouldn't be - and as Druidus said, is a nice, big, round number. God, I would imagine, is capable of experiencing time in whatever fashion he chooses...he's God.
