If, for God, a day is like a thousand years, how do we interpret:Exodus 34:21 Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest. I mean, I'm all for a rest, but I'm not going to get much done in life.........

Your point, however, is a good one. Some apologists select whatever definition causes the least embarrassment, rendering their apologetics a web of special pleading.

and there is this one ,
However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day(2peter 3;8) |

But why take that literally? Prehaps Peter was making the point that God does not experience time the way we do.

God is eternal and therefore his concept of time is much different than ours. Where a thousand years is as short or as long as one day. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Also, it is used independantly of the creation story, but it does give insight into the language that God uses in Genesis One. Could it be that he uses the term "day" only becaus eit is a term we can understand? What about his use of "there was evening and there was morning, the first day"? To me, it just opens the door to more questions, rather than answering any. You also have to take into consideration the fact that Jesus quotes Moses words in the gospel (I'll have to find the exact verse) and says the God created the heavens and the earth in one day, thereby verifying the scripture. Again, it just raises more quetions. I'll try to find the exact verse.

EEWRED, true blood,
From my understanding of inerrancy, God's word is God's word. Whatever God's perspective or temporality. it is reflected directly in God's word. I see no justification for "second guessing". |

Basically what I have always been told about this verse is that it's just to emphasize that God is not affected by time. He created this universe, and thus time, and as such it has no hold on him, it is irrelevant to him because he came frist. At least thats my 2 cents.
