Default What Baptist Church

What Baptist churches have you attended?

I have attended many Baptist sects.

I have attended American Baptist, Conservative Baptist, (simple) Independent Baptist, and Fellowship Baptist which appeared to be independent fundamentalist.
I have also attended Mennonite which has similar beliefs as Baptist.
And one of my best friends is ordained in the Southern Baptist Convention.

Because of health issues not attending anywhere right now.

I was raised by an agnostic mother and went to a methodist day care for a while but was not required to go to church as my mother did not. So I didn't. At the age of 16 being an agnostic myself, not due to decision, but due to ignorance of religion I decided to go to a baptist church to see what this "God thing" was all about. I don't know if it was a first Baptist or a Southern Baptist church, which are the two most popular ones in Texas but it was an eye opener.

For almost an entire hour the preacher yelled at the congregation for being sinners and repeatly told them to repent their sins. Lots of them sayed amen when he found a different story of sin where the soluction was repentance. Lots of yelling and lots of amens. I thought this is the silliest thing I had ever seen and I have not been in a Baptist church since.

The church I'm attending now is Southern Baptist, but there is no yelling and the pastor isn't a hell and damnation type of preacher. The sermons are usually about how we can improve our relationship with God and how to live a more Christian life.

Until recently I'd never been in a Baptist church so was not sure what to expect, but the church I attended just before this one was also Baptist. Again, no yelling and the sermons focused on improving our relationship with God and growing in Christian maturity.

I don't know where to find a Baptist church or congregation or believer in Sweden, without consulting the telephone directory or the like for a church.

I used to be a Southern Baptist and a Texas Baptist, so I've attended churches of those persuasions. I've also attended churches in the New Mexico and Arizona Baptist Conventions as well (all Southern Baptist, those).

The church I attend is an American Baptist, but the preacher is conservative, so basically the higher ups don't have much say in what we do. That is one reason we are looking for another church, though, they don't do enough.

Please don't judge Baptists and certainly not all Christians just by this experience. I suspect that you won't. There should be plenty of more sophisticated preachers and congregations in the Austin area that will provide a much different experience.

I have had similar wacky and silly experience with the Baptists. Presbyterians seem to have a better worship style.

My beliefs are basicaly the exact same as the Southern Baptist Church. They/I believe salvation is a free gift, and at the moment of salvation, many wonderful things happen, we are a new creature in Christ, and adopted into his family as his children. As his children he may have to correct us, we may fall out of fellowship, but we are still his children, thus once saved, always saved. Some, like Freewill, and maybe Primitive Baptists dont believe this. Now Baptists kinda frown on drinking and dancing, and I can understand that in many cases. The joke is that you shouldn't make love to your spouse standing up, as someone may see you and accuse you of dancing, lol.

Anyway, just kidding around, take no offense please! I love Baptists, and think they are right on in doctrine and all that! I basicaly don't like to attend church if the Bible doctrines dont match up with Baptist doctrine, which is excellent in my opinion.
