Question Questions?

Just asking if anyone has any questions about the Baha'i Faith. Yeah, I like to answer questions.

I have a question: Would it be more accurate to place the Baha'i Faith in the Abrahamic religions rather than the Eastern Beliefs forum?

Hmmmm......
Not really, though I can see your point. We embrace all religions, but we did come from the East, and are generally considered Eastern. So I think we're placed well enough.

Where does Baha'i stand (in theory and practice) regarding equality when it comes to gender, skin colour, sexual orientation and the like?

I`m not Baha`i but I A friend I had who was told me it was part of his faith to spread tolerance even for the most intolerable.
Baha`i has formed outlook and watchdog groups on the issue of racism in particular.
I don`t know if this was done by any official Baha`i group or merely humanitarian offshoots of the faith but those that I met in this work were the absolute anti-racist.

We do not discriminate on any basis. To do so would directly go against the teachings of the Baha'i Faith. In practice, we actually do uphold it.
Also, we don't paticularly have offshoots. There are a few small groups (who we don't recognize, but thats a long explanation (yes, you may ask for it)), but really just one main group of 5 million.

Default Abrahamic?

Hi, Maize! :-)

Probably the category that would fit the Baha'i Faith best would be that of a "universal" or better, a "world" religion because we truly are all over!: in literally every country on earth, and with adherents from over 2,100 different ethnic and cultural groups! :-)

But that said, "Abrahamic" is also very true! Both the Founder the Baha'i Faith, Baha'u'llah, and the Founder of the Babi Faith, the Bab (means "Gate") which immediately preceded it and announced it were lineal descendants of Abraham!

The Bab was descended through Abraham's wife Hagar, and was also a descendant of Muhammad.

Baha'u'llah was descended from two of Abraham's wives, Sarah (and later David) and Keturah!

(And interestingly, Shoghi Effendi, Baha'u'llah's great grandson who headed the Baha'i Faith from 1921 to 1957, was a descendant of both the Bab and Baha'u'llah, and was thus descended from all three of Abraham's wives!)

So that's about as Abrahamic as you can get! :-)

(BTW, on another topic, I'm new here and find myself constantly reading messages I've already seen. Is there a way to select or go to only unread messages? Thanks!)

Regards,

Bruce
