It may be a little different though in Mason Remey's case as he was a respected Baha'i and entrusted with being a Hand of the Cause of which the Guardian had appointed about a hundred or so Baha'is for their past services.
Mason was up in years when this happened in 1960... that is when he announced he thought he should be the next guardian. But the vast majority of the Baha'i world and his fellow Hands did not accept his claim. So it is with a sadness that we recall this...as he did serve the Cause for many years. - Art

It's alwo worth noting that Mason Remey was one of the 27 Hands of the Cause of God who jointly signed a document saying Shoghi Effendi (the Guardian) had left no will, and that no successor Guardian was possible! (He obviously later tried to go against his own earlier written statement....) Regards, Bruce |
