Hello Becky!
The archives building houses archives...that is many original documents in the hand of Baha'u'llah and Abdul-Baha.. artifacts of the Babi period in Persia, exihibits and art work... Photographs of early Baha'is.. The Guardian was meticulous in keeping records. The obelisk on the crest of Mount Carmel marks the spot where a future House of Worship may be built someday.. I've stood there overlooking the beautiful Bay of Haifa. It has a perfect vantage point! - Art

Hi Djamila!
Yes obelisks are used for various purposes as markers and I suppose were invented by the ancient Egyptians. One is called Cleopatra's needle as I recall. - Art

For the record, Becky, the obelisk on the site of the future Mount Carmel Baha'i temple (which I understand definitely will be built someday) has on its side the emblem of the Greatest Name (Ya Baha'u'l Abha, "O Thou Glory of Glories"). If you haven't already seen this emblem, you can find it at various Baha'i sites, including www.bahai.org and www.bahai.us
Best! :-) Bruce |
