ever since the begining when ever that was people have been searchiong for the truth. i think people made a figure that had power to give them reason for living and now no one realy needs it. accedents happen because either you or some one else messed up not because of some master plan. i also think these people who deliver divine messages did it because they were mentaly unstable. or to keep every one from killing each other.

I don't think mental instability led to the creation of religion, but a need to explain the unexplainable. Early humans needed a reason to consider the consequences of their actions, and I really believe that we would not have gotten very far as a species without the concept of religion. But it has been corrupted from it's original purpose and used on a grand scale as a tool to control even some of the most mundane aspects of daily life. Religion was a useful tool in our move from animal to human, but it's time for it to take a back seat to reality IMO. You don't need religion to be charitable, or kind , or empathetic to the plight of other human beings, though some might disagree. Still, religion is fine by me if it helps people to cope and does not infringe on anyones right to live their own lives. We just have to get some people to understand that, as atheists, we are not devil worshippers or tools of satan. Understanding and intelligent dialogue work well but I also think it is important to get to the point and not beat around the bush with the subject. ![]()

religious people aren't weak. it takes a lot of strength to believe in something so blindly.

Everyone has to believe in something, I believe I'll go fishing.
(Taken off a matchbook.) I do not have a problem with someone being an Atheist, ( My Dad was until he was on his deathbed.)) but like most Atheist, I too do not like it when the beliefs of others are pushed on me uninvited. |

Most religions have their fringe members and some have more on the fringe than others but I think to say that universally people who deliver divine message are mentally unstable. I would also say that people use religion as a justification for killing one another with lesser but still present consistancy than to halt war. Good to meet you.
