Default Archaeology

Hi there...

Is anyone here? Does archaeology fall under anthropology on this forum? I'm new and this is my first posting. I have a passion for biblical archaeology and I'm STILL working on a degree in Bible.

Anyone here been to Israel to excavate? What to share notes, learning experiences?

I'm interested, too. I've never been to a dig, but a friend of mine is working at Philippi or will be there soon. I do my archaeology, like Indiana Jones, from the library.

Hi there...

You have a friend excavating at Philippi? In Greece? I was there in November, I learned so much. I wasn't excavating, just traveling.

I excavate in Israel. That is by I like the biblical aspect of archaeology.

As for the library, about 80% of the work is research in the library, and only maybe 20% of the time is in excavating. That's why there are so many excavations which have not been published.

HI there...

The excavations at Amarna have been productive for history, for linguistics, and other substanial studies. In biblical archaeology, they record communication with Jerusalem and also the Habiru.

Which dig are you with? I've heard that Israel is proactive in preventing fundamentalist Christians from excavating anything there, but I do see groups from Southwestern Baptist Seminary attaching themselves to trips from other schools... etc.

I have no interest in getting in the dirt.
