Nephilim (Earth, Messiah, beliefs, translation, Harry Potter)

I want your opnions on this biblical race of people!

There are basically two translations of 'nephilim'. One concentrates on the Hebrew root n-f-l 'to fall', and understands it as "the fallen ones". The other, majority, one reads 'giants'.

For an introduction, try Wikipedia.

Personally, I find them only marginally more interesting than Harry Potter and his friends or similar fictional characters.

I have read th wikipedia article before. My I found very intresting that there are beliefs that these people where the offspring twixed human men and female angels.

I've always thought they were the fallen angels themselves, because doesn't Genesis say they bred with women, because they thought the women were beautiful? And to my understanding the giants mentioned in the Bible were the offspring and descendents of the Nephilim and the human women who had relations with them.

Yes, I have. They are the offspring of the "sons of God" and the "daughters of men" in Genesis. I personally believe that the sons of God there are fallen angels, but I have heard other interpretations as well.

So I assume that they where wiped out by the Great Flood that the Lord sent during thet ime of Noah.

Gen. 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

I read one commentator that believed they may have been the cause, they were demonic beings who infected mankind with a particularly virulent and horrific form of sinfulness. Supposedly these demonic beings mated with human females because they wanted to insure that humans were destroyed by sin to prevent the Messiah's ascendency through the house of David.

Gen. 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7The LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."
