I too think it absurd to think that we are the only intelligent life (and that is debatable) in the universe; maybe one day we'll find out.

Many Christians believe that there will be a "rapture"; and many also believe that the "rapture" will be veiled as a massive alien abduction. That perspective appears to be slanted towards the idea that, if aliens exist, then they are somehow "evil." Within the context of the Western religious views, would it be upsetting to discover that aliens are real? ....I was once told that "Aliens cannot be real, because 'God' wouldn't send his son Jesus to die for other people on other planets." This type of mentality may be one of the main reasons that persons are hostile towards the possibility of the existence of aliens and that the religious institutions (especially among the Western world) refuse to accept such things.

Any thoughts on this?

The Ruach (or Holy Spirit) in Hebrew and Aramaic traditions was considered feminine. However, in the pnuema (similar to the concept of the spirit or quintessence) in Greek and other pagan cultures, was masculine. In quite a number of pagan cultures, there were mythologies about virgin births (to female humans) from a masculine spirit source. And many more mythologies included births of divine origin, which were more along the lines of genetic modifications, where the "gods" would come down and have sex with female humans and have some very anomalous offspring. In many ancient cultures, there are variations of the Sphinx and the cherubim (like seen in Ezekiel's vision). You should take a visit to the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York. The first huge exhibit has cherubim (sphinx's) galore--from all over the ancient world and from many cultures and time periods. Genetic engineering is real, and has apparent ancient roots.
