For instance what does John mean when he says "Word" in those verses. I am sure you're going to say it was Jesus, and in a limited sense that's true. But the word of God in sacred text is never simply defined. Also "Word" is the impulse to CREATE that God had with Him. That impulse was followed and the word "BE~" was spoken and all of Creation came into being.

Mankind was part of that creation and the pinnacle of that creation, but 'man' had no means of comprehending God and finding the will of God to follow. So God created the Manifestations to appear to men in different times and places and show forth the Spirit, love and mercy of God in a way that could be understood.

Jesus was one of the Divine Mirrors.

But He was not the only One.

So in this light there is no contradiction between the Qur'an and the Gospel of John's opening verses.

True, but each bring their set of ordinances also, and I'm not sure how you follow more than one at the same time.

An individual may manage this, but to be a religious leader is much more difficult.

Everyone has their own set of ordinances. Some like to pretend they've delegated that responsibility is all.

No actually there are people who attempt to follow ordinances they personally would not like to, and in the end find some wisdom through having done so.

That they attempt to follow aspects of an ordinance they personally don't like doesn't change that they chose the ordinance. And what happens when one can't live up to an ordinance (perhaps because one really doesn't desire to do so)?
