The first eleven chapters of Genesis are considered by scholars to be pre-historical. History begins with Abraham. Everything before Abraham is completely unverifiable or already falsified - you may as well be looking for Adam and Eve. The creation story and flood story (at least on worldwide scale) has already been completely disproven...

In my opinion, the Babel story, like the creation story, is mutually exclusive to any evolutionary theory, and thus is not compatible with everything we know about migration, human anthropology, and linguistics.

There is a broad consensus that the story of Abraham at least interacts with history - we can contextualize it with archaeology and history in a way that we cannot with everything that preceeds it. I think that von Raad is on my mind... but it's been a while since I read broadly in Genesis.

Christians and Jews alike often disagree about the Flood and the reaches that it had, but evidence holds that the flood was actually worldwide, not just regional.
Here are reasons:

1) The bible says that the flood was meant to "destroy all flesh" Genesis 9:15, this cannot be done unless the flood was worldwide.

2) Every ancient peoples across the globe even in the Americas, and in Babylon, and in Russia and Erope have a ancient story of what we call "the flood", thus mroe proof that the flood happened worldwide.

3) Many geological aspects across all of earth can only be explained by a flood. Such as fish bones being found thousands of feet aove sea level in rock.

4) We have animals, even huge whales fossiled in rock, vertically. Many trees and Animals which should have died out during a certain time period can be found straddling millions of years of strata.What can do this?

However the Worldwide flood "theory" goes hand in hand with Creationism, if one denies one i could understand why one would also deny the other.The question of evolution always rises when considering the worldwide flood.
