Hello religious friends, I hope you can spare some time for a confused non-theist. Do you believe God to be infinite and all-encompassing, and if so, wouldn't that makes us all a part of god? And if we're all peices of God ourselves, how is sin even possible? (I'm not here to debate this point, I just want to know what you think.)

Hi Nanda, Did you mean this to be in Abrahamic religions (and therefore only to be answered by those who fall into that category ? - If you would like a broader spectrum of replies, let me know and i can move the thread for you. As far as your question, yes, I believe God to be infinite, and yes, I believe that every living being (including flora and fauna) are indeed "parts of God". Sin is possible because when we are here on Earth, incarnate, we have no memories of our previous lives - nor of the "in betweens". Life, or a series of lives is the time during which we are "tested" by having free will in whether we act sinfully or not - the choice is entirely ours. We therefore either learn lessons - or don't in each life time. The ultimate - "Heaven" is knowingly being re-merged with God.

No, I'm specifically interested in how people who follow Abrahamic religions view this. But thank you.

IMHO God's DNA, life, is all-encompassing. |

Can something be infinite without being all-encompassing?

To me, infinite means everlasting or without end. I see God as being inifinite. I don't see Him as being all-encompassing because, to begin with, I see Him as having a form and not as being a force which permeates the universe. I believe He created everything in the universe, but not that He did so ex nihilo (or out of nothing). I believe He created humanity out of a substance best described as the light of truth, and that this substance was co-eternal with Him. So I guess my answer is "no," I don't believe He is all-encompassing, but I do believe He is infinite.
