Default Meat

I have a question for the Abrahamics. At which point in time (I mean in the Bible/Torah/Qu'Ran) does God allow the eating of plants and the eating of meats? Thank you

HaShem does not prohibit the eating of plants (which is why it's easier to be a vegetarian if you are trying to be kosher, there aren't any issues about it).
As far as meats go the rules are:

Land animals: must have cloven hooves and chew their own cud Lev.11.3 and Deut. 14.6 (deer, sheep, cattle: yes; pigs, camels, fox: no)

sea creatures: must have scales AND fins Lev. 11.9 and Deut. 14.9 (tuna, salmon, carp: Yes; all shellfish, catfish, shark: No)

Birds: the rules are less clear, there is a list in Lev. 11.13-19 and again in Deut. 14.11-18 and it seems that most of the birds are either birds of prey or scavengers so most rabbis have made the piont that this is the criteria for what can and can not be eaten.

"Swarming things" : there is a permission to eat certain types of these creatures in Lev. 11.22 but since no one's quite sure what they are the general rule is to not eat them at all just to be safe.

rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and insects are pretty much off limits Lev. 11.29-30, 42-43

then of course if you want to be REALLY kosher about it those animals you do eat (excluding the fish that is permitted) must be slaughtered in a kosher manner and drained of all blood.
And of course the prohibition to "not eat a kid in it's mother's milk" which now the rabbinical authority says that no dairy (milchig) and meat (fleichig) should be mixed (this excludes fish which isn't considered "meat" or "Fleichig")
that's basically the rules in the Torah for Jews

I see. But when was the consumption of any meat allowed, or the consumption of any plant matter. I took a quick glance in Genesis (I'm sure I read before that that is where God granted all the plants in the world to man), but I couldn't find anything.

Thank you for the info, however. Couple of questions regarding it:

Can you eat rabbits? Can you eat bats? Is human flesh directly prohibited? Would you be allowed to eat the prohibited foods in times of strife? (Say you crash land in a mountain with only many cans of "Pork and Beans")

Thanks again!

in matters of life and death it is permitted to eat non-kosher foods, because human life takes priority

Salaam,

about the dairy and meat thing "And of course the prohibition to "not eat a kid in it's mother's milk" which now the rabbinical authority says that no dairy (milchig) and meat (fleichig) should be mixed "

I have heard that if they are consumed together they do not digest as well. they produce different sorts of juices to digest them and instead of helping each other, the juices cancel each other out and the food sits in the stomach longer and what little nutrition there is, is not extracted properly. I do not know if this is true, just what i heard.
when it comes to survival, all foods are ok to eat.

that may be the case john313 i don't know...

i'd like to retract the statement about the rabbinical rule of meat and milk...talking to my rabbi it is actually considered a biblical prohibition to not eat beef and cheese together...it is found in the Oral Torah (the Talmud which traditional Judaism believes to have been given at Sinai w/ the Written Torah)....the rabbinic law is to not eat any meat and dairy together (this of course does not include fish which is not halachically considered "meat")
